August - I was on a team GB cable training camp in preparation to compete the following week at the IWWF Cable Worlds in Norway. However, on the 2nd day of a 3 day camp I unfortunately tweaked my knee and had to pull out of the worlds on medical advice. I was gutted that I couldn’t go to the Worlds and compete but following an MRI scan I started physiotherapy almost immediately so was fortunate to have only about 5 weeks off the water in total. Thanks to the team at the Blackberry Clinic, Milton Keynes, I soon regained fitness following a daily strength and conditioning programme. It was disappointing I had to stop wakeboarding peak season, however I was so thankful I could recover quickly and my injury wasn’t too bad!
September - I was back out on the lake and got 2nd place at the IWWF ‘Clothes for Kids’ charity cable competition at JBski. The following week I won the third stop of the AOD Tour at LDBwakeschool. I was stoked with these two competitions as I hadn't long been back riding but although I was feeling back on form I was still taking things easy because I really wanted to make it to the boat European & African Championships in Portugal in October.
Portugal soon came round quick! I was super excited about this trip especially as I'd missed the cable Worlds. The competition location and venue were perfect with the hotel only a short 5 minute walk to the lake and the weather being hot and sunny all week. The new Mastercraft Xstar was on hand to tow the competition with riders coming from all over Europe and Africa to compete behind it. The contest was set to be tough but I was stoked to qualify straight through to the finals from the first round meaning I didn’t have to ride again until finals. Again, in the finals I was up against a strong field of riders but managed to stick most of my tricks despite falling in my first pass putting me into 2nd place! I was super happy to bring home the silver medal in Junior Ladies! Team GB took a really strong team out to the competition again this year with 22 riders competing winning individual 4 bronze medals, 1 silver medal and 1 gold medal placing the team 2nd overall with Italy winning the overall gold medal and Spain winning the bronze medal overall. I had a fantastic time out there with the team and large group of supporters, thank you for making it such an awesome trip!
I would like to thank BWSW, Ride Leisure, Sports Aid/Eversheds, Ultrasport EU, ION and Box End Park for your support this year! Also a massive thanks to Lee at LDBwakeschool for all your help and coaching!
